September 14-17, 2015
Since starting the Rolling Thru America series, we’ve received many requests to bring you to the mountains and lakes of New Hampshire. We waited until we found the perfect combination of great roads, lodging and meals – and now we’ve got it for you! The tour includes seven meals, guided tours along incredible routes, amazing destinations, and a sunset boat cruise.
You’ll stay in a gorgeous, quaint inn on the largest lake in NH, in historic Wolfeboro, America’s oldest summer resort and not far from where “On Golden Pond” was filmed. It’s a very quaint and picturesque New England town, where there’s a good chance that you’ll hear some loons as you stroll along the Inn’s waterfront.
On your first night, you’ll kick off Rolling Thru New Hampshire with a great welcome party and dinner in the Inn, overlooking the lake.
On the second day, following breakfast, we’ll follow our experienced local guides along the best winding roads along the shores of picturesque Lake Winnipesaukee and enjoy an outstanding lunch at The Newfound Lake Inn, one of the top 5 restaurants in NH, overlooking another gorgeous lake. Following the day’s ride, you’ll have the night to yourself, exploring Wolfeboro.
Your third day will be an amazing one: Following breakfast, you’ll ride along the famous, twisting Kancamagus Highway (one of the best roads in the U.S.), through the jaw-dropping White Mountain National forest, to an elegant lunch at the breathtaking Omni Mount Washington Resort, a National Historic Landmark. At night, you’ll enjoy a feast at the Inn, with music, lake views and great memories.
On your final day, we’ll gather for one last (great) breakfast, share stories and photos, and say goodbye (until next year’s adventure).
We’re really excited to share RTNH with you. The tour is a very high-end tour, and we’re confident it will be an instant favorite. But…there are only 80 spots available, so it WILL sell out fast.
Monday – Unpack, Dine and Relax
Hotel & Tour Check-In
For the first time ever, Rolling Thru America has secured an entire Inn. It combines the town’s rich New England history with the service and amenities of a full-service hotel. From cozy inn rooms to spacious suites, each room offers, complimentary Wi-Fi, and evening turn down service. Comfort is the word that comes to mind when you settle into this historic Inn. As part of your tour your Rolling Thru New Hampshire gift will be waiting for you!
Join us for a cocktail followed by an Italian dinner under a tent on the manicured lawn with a panoramic view of Lake Winnipesaukee. A perfect opportunity to renew friendships and make some new ones. Menu includes: Chicken Breast topped with Marsala Sauce, Penne Pasta Alfredo, Eggplant Parmesan, Roasted Zucchini and Summer Squash, Caesar salad and more. This delicious meal will end with mini Cannolis and Chef handmade Biscotti.
Tuesday – Lakeside Twisties and an 1840 Old Coach House
Enjoy a bountiful breakfast, in the inn’s enchanting 1812 Room (including scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes). This charming space features a vaulted ceiling overlooking a garden gazebo, and the Belknap mountain range.
After breakfast, we’ll head out to ride New Hampshire’s Lake District, around Lake Winnipesaukee. It’s the largest lake in the State of New Hampshire and one of the largest lakes in the United States. The natural shape of the lake has created twisty roads you’ll love to ride. To make things even better, most of those roads have been newly repaved.
You’ll arrive at The Newfound Lake Inn, one of the top 5 restaurants in New Hampshire. Welcoming travelers since 1840 and formerly an overnight stop on the stage-coach route from Boston to Montreal, you’ll dine in rustic elegance alongside the lake. The gourmet lunch includes Grilled Chicken breast w/tomato, basil and lemon sauce, and Filet of Sole w/Crab stuffing topped with a white wine sauce. To finish this delicious meal, Apple Bread pudding with homemade Grand Marnier sauce. You’ll love your surroundings in this tastefully transformed historic barn.
Upon your return to the Wolfeboro Inn, hop aboard the Winnipesaukee Belle paddle
boat and enjoy a 90 minute cruise along the lake shore. Then enjoy your free night in beautiful Wolfeboro, a historic New England town with dozens of places to eat and shop.
Wednesday – Mt. Washington
Enjoy breakfast in the Wolfeboro Inn’s 1812 Room and be prepared for an unforgettable ride around Mount Washington, the most prominent mountain east of the Mississippi River.
Today’s route includes the northern part of The White Mountain National Forest surrounding Mt. Washington, the highest peak in the northeastern U.S. Amazing views are in every direction as we wind our way to one of the most impressive lunch destinations in the world at the luxurious Omni Mount Washington Resort. You’ll easily understand why it is a National Historic Landmark.
Your fresh, locally sourced lunch buffet prepared by their prize-winning chefs includes: Individual Chicken Pot Pies, Lemon Roasted Atlantic Salmon with white wine sauce, Maple Roast Pork Loin with apples, Butternut Squash Ravioli with sage cream, New England Clam Chowder, Minestrone, Asst. Salads. Dessert display including Asst. Pies, Cakes and Fresh Fruit.
By the time today’s adventure is over, we’ll have ridden the famous Kancamagus Highway, Franconia Notch (with The Flume chasm: 90 foot vertical walls only 12 feet wide) and Crawford Notch with spectacular views of the Presidential Range of mountains including Mount Washington, Mount Adams, Mount Jefferson, Mount Munroe and a dozen more.
Dinner- Our final dinner will be a great one, held directly at the Wolfeboro Inn (no need to ride!). Enjoy music, the views and one heck of a meal. Menu includes: Braised Boneless Short Ribs, Prosciutto Crusted Chicken, Roasted Parmesan Crusted Eggplant Medallions, Seasonal Vegetables, mixed Green Salad, Spinach Salad w/crumbled Gorgonzola cheese, red onion, walnuts & cranberry. Chef’s dessert to end your meal.
Thursday – Farewell Breakfast
After enjoying our final breakfast of the tour at The Wolfeboro Inn, we’ll gather for a “class photo” to remind ourselves of all the fun and friendship we’ve had in 4 short days.
Optional (Guided) Tour:
Some may elect to do an exciting self-guided ride up the Mount Washington Auto (toll) Road. Because it is world-famous for having the most extreme and erratic weather, and because the road is often closed to motorcycles because of that, this ride would be very weather-dependent. We didn’t include it in the tour because of this. Even though the toll road is only 7.6 miles long, and though it’s possible to do a round trip from the toll gate in less than 90 minutes, one should allow 3 hours for this adventure. Until 2010, the weather observatory on the summit held the record for the highest wind gust directly measured at the Earth’s surface, 231 mph, on April 12, 1934. In September, the average high temperature at the 6,288 foot summit is in the high 40s (f.) Average wind speed up there is about 50mph with a 30% chance of precipitation in September.
The average grade is 12% and there are no guard rails. As the sign at the base says: “If you have a fear of heights, you may not appreciate this driving experience”. Bonne chance!
If you choose to do this ride, you may choose to extend your stay at our hotel and we’d be happy to help you with any needed arrangements. If you’re among the few, the brave, the crazy, we will lead a group to the bottom of the mountain on Thursday following breakfast, weather permitting. Because this micro-tour is outside the tour’s official itinerary, the toll fee would be separate. We’ll wrangle you a group discount if possible.
